40V automotive synchronous buck converter

Diodes has announced a 600mA automotive-compliant dc-dc converter that can run from 4.5 to 40V.

Called AP64060Q, the parts include a 600mΩ high-side and a 300mΩ low-side mosfet – the latter making an external Schottky optional. Quiescent current is typically 90μA, according to the company.

Two resistors are needed to set output voltage, and anywhere up from 0.8V – with buck converter caveats. An inductor is needed, and at least three extrnal capacitors are needed for operation and a fourth can be added to improve transient response.

The data sheet includes suggested component values for producing 1.8, 2.5, 3.3, 5 or 12V.

Control is peak current mode with built-in loop compensation, and switching is at 2MHz.

“The proprietary gate driver scheme alleviates switching node ringing without impacting on mosfet turn-on and turn-off times. This mitigates high frequency radiated electromagnetic interference caused by mosfet switching,” said the company.

Operation is over an ambient range of -40 to +125°C. Protections include over-voltage, under-voltage lockout, and thermal shutdown. Under-voltage lock-out is set at 3.8V, but can be raised using two resistors at the expense of higher quiescent current.

Packaging is TSOT26.

The device is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified, supports PPAP documentation and is manufactured in IATF 16949 certified facilities.

Applications are foreseen in power trains, infotainment systems, instrumentation clusters and vehicles exterior lighting.
