The AOC 24G2(U) is often praised for its price to performance ratio. The AOC 24G2SP (24G2SPU European designation) follows this up, based on an IPS-type panel with a slight boost in refresh rate to 165Hz. The styling is similar to the predecessor and in-keeping with other members of the G2 series. Matte black plastics are combined with some dark red plastic elements for a little visual flair. The star-shaped stand base is satin-finish silver plastic in some regions, including the US, but matte black on the ‘U’ model. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen. Plus a thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons on the underside of the bottom bezel, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 23.8” 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) IPS-type panel is employed. This is accompanied by support for a 165Hz refresh rate, with Adaptive-Sync including AMD FreeSync Premium and a 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 126% sRGB colour gamut, for a bit of extra vibrancy without strong oversaturation. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the MBR (Motion Blur Reduction) strobe backlight setting, whilst a ‘Low Input Lag’ mode is also included.
Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. The screen attaches to the stand via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The stand offers tilt, swivel, height (130mm or 5.12 inches) and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include; 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, DP 1.2a, VGA, a 3.5mm headphone jack and AC power input (internal power converter). The ‘U’ model also includes 4 USB 3.2 ports (plus upstream) and 2 x 2W speakers for basic sound output. A variant with a tilt-only stand plus speakers but no USB ports is also available in some regions, the 24G2SPAE.
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$190 USD (£180) with US availability from late May 2022.
