The 3440 x 1440 ultrawide experience is something many enjoy for both work and play – and a strong HDR performance on top can be the icing on the cake. The AOC AG344UXM of the AGON Pro series delivers this. Aesthetics are shared with other members of the series, with a coated metal ‘penguin foot’ stand design combined with dark matte plastics and some red elements. The underside of the bottom bezel includes customisable ‘Light FX’ RGB LEDs, whilst a projector can fire one of two logo designs in a colour of your choice at the desk. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front. Or alternatively using the included wired ‘QuickSwitch’ remote.

A 34″ 3440 x 1440 (UWQHD, 21:9 ultrawide) IPS-type panel is employed. As this is a flat screen, we believe a BOE IPS-ADS panel (CELL, more specifically) with custom backlight solution is most likely used. This includes support for a 170Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync, with 48 – 170Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC likely) is specified. A Mini LED backlight with 1152 dimming zones is included, providing a typical maximum luminance of 700 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) and 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut specified. ‘LowBlue mode’ Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. The monitor responds to HDR10 content in a dynamic way, putting its powerful backlight solution with local dimming to work alongside 10-bit colour reproduction and generous DCI-P3 coverage. It’s certified at the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 level.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you shouldn’t pay too much attention to. The included stand includes swivel, tilt and height (130mm or 5.12 inches) adjustment and can be removed via a quick-release latch to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. Customisable ‘Light FX’ LED strips are included at the flanks of the monitor, at the rear – shown in red in the image below. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm microphone jack, 3.5mm headphone jack, DP 1.4 port, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports plus upstream and an AC power input (internal power converter, with ‘zero watt’ power switch). KVM functionality is included, allowing easy USB peripheral sharing and display input switching between 2 systems. 2 x 8W DTS speakers are included for potentially quite rich and powerful sound output.
