1.27mm pitch connectors are tough for military and aerospace

“Thanks to special material selection, fabrication and heat treating techniques, TwistPin contacts resist stress relaxation for up to 1,000 hours at 125°C,” according to Powell Electronics, which is stocking the connectors. “Available with insulated and uninsulated wire, PCB, solder cup and flex terminations, as QPL or commercial variations, the Micro-D devices provide a reliable solution for interconnect requirements including high temperature and hermetic applications.”

Contact rating is 3A continuous over the operating range of -55 to +150°C, and the dielectric can withstand 600Vac at sea level and 150Vac at 70,000 feet (~20km) Contact resistance is 8mΩmax (EIA-364-06) or 32mΩmax (low level, EIA-364-23). A life of 500 mating cycles is expected.

For RFI/EMI shielding, 65dBmin (EIA-364-66) attenuation is expected with metal shell and ground spring.

Space-grade Micro-D connectors with NASA and ESA screening options are also available.

The products are manufactured in the UK for short lead times in Europe, as well as in the USA. In the UK Glenair also designs Micro-D solutions.

Powell is an authorized, QPL’ed distributor for over 50 military specifications and is ISO9120 certified. It recently relocated its European operations to Dublin “employing more technical staff to support design-in activities and signing new franchises agreements with Glenair, Harwin, Amphenol Aerospace, Quell, AB Connectors, Lemo, Conesys and Positronic”, it said.
