It has three RJ45 sockets on the front as well as tool-free spring-terminals for single wires – all in a package 37.9mm wide.
Inside is a web server which “not only meets modern cybersecurity requirements, but also enables simple and convenient commissioning and diagnostics via mobile devices”, according to the company. “All configuration and diagnostics are performed via a standard web browser – deep knowledge of PLC programming is not required.”
There is also a REST API for data access in parallel with fieldbus IIoT communication, and an SD Card interface is included for data back-up.
It is available as a single or dual master for two ASi lines. A total of 31 (standard addressing) or 62 (extended address assignment) devices can be connected to one gateway. “Devices can be flexibly connected via a flat cable, which ensures power supply and communication,” said Pepperl+Fuchs.
Applications are foreseen controlling roller conveyors. “By connecting G20 ASi modules via an ASi gateway to a higher-level PLC, 24V motorised rollers in logistics centres, for example, are driven so that packages move smoothly along the conveyor line.,” according to the company. “The PLC controls which direction the packages should take on the transitions, and sends the process data image to the ASi gateway. This forwards the process data to the G20 modules.”
An AS-Interface network can be several hundred meters in length and be operated as a star, line or ring.
