Called STM32C0, processing is through a 48MHz Cortex-M0+ and the series’ peripherals include a 1.7Msample/s ADC with hardware for 16bit over-sampling, and timers for motor control. Up to 32kbyte flash and 12kbyte ram is available.
They deliver 44DMIPS instruction throughput and CoreMark=114, with 80µA/MHz running consumption and are seen as a lower-performance cousin to the company’s STM32G0 family, which which they share the same 90nm process, pinout and package options. Operation is over 2 to 3.6V.
“ST targets equipment like home appliances, industrial pumps, fans, smoke detectors, typically served by simpler 8bit and 16bit MCUs,” said the company, claiming: “The modern 32bit design permits improvements such as faster response, extra functions, and network connection at similar overall cost and power consumption.”
Part numbers are:
- STM32C011xx = 6kbyte ram
- STM32C031xx =12kbyte ram
- STM32C0x1x4 = 16kbyte flash
- STM32C0x1x6 = 32kbyte flash
Filling out the part number set the number of ADC channels, number of GPIOs (some 5V-tolerant) and package pad count – the latter is 8, 12 or 20pads for the ’32C11.. (6kbyte ram) parts and 20, 28, 32 or 48pads for ’32C31.. (12kbyte ram).
All get one I2C and two USART interfaces, then some get an SPI interface reconfigurable to I2S, and the on-board clock is accurate to 1%.
Development boards include Nucleo-C031C6, STM32C0116-DK and STM32C0316-DK (pictured).
Software resources include STM32CubeMX configuration tool, Microsoft Azure RTOS and the STM32CubeC0 MCU package with HAL (hardware abstraction layer) and low-layer libraries.
