SPIN stands for Space Placements in Industry. According to the bodies, the projects to be supported should be suitable to be carried out by an undergraduate or postgraduate student in a relevant discipline over a period of 8 or more weeks in the summer.
Note that applicants must be registered with an educational establishment at the time of their application. It is also possible for that organisation to extend the intern’s placement beyond 8 weeks at their discretion and expense.
Supporting the initiative, the UKSA will be hosting a SPIN Information Event on Monday 6 February (from 4:30-5:30pm).
“This event is for organisations looking to host an intern and will explain the SPIN Programme from start to finish, including how to apply for grant funding from the UK Space Agency, how the intern recruitment process works, and how best to support your intern once you’ve recruited. Please register through the Eventbrite line page and we will send you a Microsoft Teams invite in due course.”
You can find more details about the scheme online.
Developing skills in interns is an area previously identified within the UK’s Space Sector Skills Survey.
