16:9 and even wider aspect ratios such 21:9 have really taken over in the monitor market. Some prefer their screen to be a bit more square, with a bit more height relative to its width. The Dell U3023E of the UltraSharp series offers this, with its 30″ screen and 16:10 aspect ratio. The monitor adopts the usual smart and professional look of the series, with a stain-finish silver plastic stand neck and base. The bezels are slender at all sides, with a dual-stage design that comprises a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen. And thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front. A separate dedicated power button is also included.

A 30″ 2560 x 1600 (WQXGA) IPS panel is adopted with 60Hz refresh rate, likely from LG Display. A matte anti-glare screen surface is used, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour is specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The monitor includes ‘ComfortView Plus’, which means the peak of blue light is shifted to less energetic wavelengths – potentially enhancing viewing comfort. This is a TÜV Rheinland certified hardware solution for Low Blue Light (LBL). In addition, the ‘ComfortView’ LBL setting is included which reduces blue light of all wavelengths for a more relaxing viewing experience.

A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual isn’t a figure you shouldn’t put too much weight on. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA mounting provision. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), HDMI 1.4, DP 1.4, DP 1.4 out (for MST daisy chaining), USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), a 3.5mm audio output, USB-C upstream (data only), 3 USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and an RJ45 port. A 4th USB 3.2 Gen2 port and USB-C downstream port is located at the bottom of the screen, outside the main port area for easy access. KVM support is included for easy sharing of USB peripherals between for USB peripheral sharing between 2 systems, with 2-source PbP and PiP also supported.
