Musk looking at Neuralink-Synchron tie-up

Synchron says it “has developed an endovascular brain computer interface that can access every corner of the brain using its natural highways, the blood vessels. Our breakthrough platform launches a new frontier for the treatment of neurological diseases: Neurointerventional Electrophysiology (Neuro EP). Our technology will transform three medical verticals: Neuroprosthetics, Neuromodulation, and Neurodiagnostics”

Musk, according to Reuters who spoke to four people who work or have worked at Neuralink, has recently expressed disappointment at the slow progress being made on its brain implant device which is intended to link the brain to external electronic devices.

Whereas Neuralink’s device requires surgery to make an incision in the head to implant the device, Synchron’s implant is introduced into the body via arteries and veins.

Synchron describes this procedure as: “Our Neuro EP platform is built on the stentrode, an endovascular electrode array. It is designed to record or stimulate the brain or nerves from within the blood vessels. The device is designed to become incorporated into the wall of the blood vessel like a tattoo. Similar to a stent, it is designed not to cause long term inflammation or trauma to the brain. The stentrode is the key to our platform.“

Synchron is reported to have has raised $65 million and Neuralink $363 million.
