“With access to detailed test reports, businesses can easily verify that technicians on site have completed an install correctly,” said Trend product director Dan Barrera. “Occasional termination mistakes are inevitable but, previously, issues would only become evident later when the project was handed over. Documenting even simple installations provides confidence that the job is correct when the technicians leave the site.”
The tester includes all the functions of the company’s VDV II Pro data cable verifier, with increased service detection to display network connection speeds of 2.5, 5 and 10Gbit/s. For PoE cable and installation testing, the instrument can present a load to IEEE 802.3bt, detecting the PoE Class and drawing the required power – up to 90W, PoE++.
“Delivered power is automatically compared to the standard with a clear pass-fail result presented to the user,” said Trend.
In use, Bluetooth is used to connect with a phone-based app, which can accumulate data. Data in the phone can optionally be linked with a photo, then it can all be sent to the company’s cloud service.
“Users simply hit ‘upload’ to seamlessly transfer results,” said Trend. “Test results can then be organised into an intuitive folder structure, identifying the building, floor, room, rack and panel of each test, ready for .pdf reports to be generated.”
The app can cloud service is being expanded to cover more products from the company – they already work with LanTek III/IV/IV-S cable certifiers and SignalTek 10G bandwidth testers as well as with PoE Pro.
