For content consumption including some fast-paced gaming, 240Hz+ VA models can be an attractive choice. The Samsung S27BG65 (S27BG650) and S32BG65 (S32BG650) provide this experience, with a ‘1440p’ resolution that strikes a good balance between pixel density and GPU grunt requirements. Familiar Odyssey styling is used, including plenty of dark matte plastics and some RGB LED cheek pieces either side of the bottom bezel, part of the ‘Infinity Core Lighting’ feature. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen, plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by rubberised directional buttons beneath the centre of the bottom bezel. Or alternatively using the included IR remote. An ambient light sensor is also included, allowing the monitor to adjust its image according to ambient lighting.

The monitors adopt a 27″ (S27) or 31.5″ (S32) VA panel from CSOT, with 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or ‘1440p’) resolution. Adaptive-Sync also features, including AMD FreeSync Premium Pro with 60 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. A 1000R (relatively steep) curve is included to draw you into the experience a bit, whilst a 2500:1 static contrast, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support are specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are also included, promoting a more relaxing viewing experience. The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR 600 certified, allowing it to respond to HDR10 content in a fairly dynamic way. With decent pulses of brightness, a reasonably wide colour gamut put to good use, 10-bit colour and a degree of local dimming for a situational contrast boost.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (approach with caution), whilst a range of gaming-focused features are included such as on-screen crosshairs and a ‘Black Equalizer’ gamma enhancement feature to improve visibility in dark areas. The included stand offers full adjustability, including 120mm (4.72 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. A ring of ‘Infinity Core Lighting’ RGB LEDs surround the attachment point, whilst the stand can be removed to make way for alternative 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus Type-B upstream), a 3.5mm headphone jack, ethernet (LAN) port and DC power input (external ‘power brick’). A range of ‘Smart Hub’ features are included, accessible via WiFi or ethernet, without a system connected. Apps include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, ‘Samsung TV Plus’ and ‘Gaming Hub’. Bluetooth is also supported, whilst basic integrated speakers are included.
