Strong contrast and brightness are key aspects of a convincing HDR performance. The ViewSonic XG341C-2K of the ELITE series aims to provide this, in a 34″ ultrawide format. Styling is reminiscent of others in the series, with matte black materials throughout, including for the coated metal stand base. Medium-dark grey branding is used to try to minimise the contrast of such elements. The top and side bezels are ‘dual-stage’ with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen, plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 34″ 3440 x 1440 (UWQHD, 21:9 ultrawide) VA panel is used, with 1500R (moderate) curve. A 200Hz (factory OC) refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync Premium Pro with 48 – 200Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 3000:1 static contrast, 178°/178 viewing angles and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free Mini LED backlight with 1152 dimming zones provides a 720 cd/m² typical maximum luminance (1400 cd/m²+ HDR peak) and 97% DCI-P3 (140% sRGB) colour gamut. The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR 1400 certified, allowing the monitor to put its Mini LED backlight solution to good use for contrast enhancement and excellent brightness levels. Whilst using 10-bit colour processing and making good use of its generous DCI-P3 coverage.
A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the ‘PureXP’ strobe backlight setting – pay little attention to this specification. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism, with 100 x 100mm VESA holes included for alternative mounting. The stand offers tilt, swivel and height (120mm or 4.72 inches) adjustment. Customisable ELITE RGB LED lighting strips are include running towards the corners of the screen, at the rear. A flip-down headphone hook is also included. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4, USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), 3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (plus Type-B upstream) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The monitor includes a ‘4K’ UHD downsampling mode which can run at up to 120Hz – allowing modern games consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X make good use of the HDMI 2.1 port of the monitor. 2 x 5W speakers are also included, whilst PiP/PbP with KVM functionality is included, allowing easy switching of connected USB peripherals between 2 systems.
Further details on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$1500 USD.
