Imagination is offering up to 1.3Gray/s of ray-tracing with its latest DXT GPU intellectual property, aimed at gaming-capable phones (in theory this performance was available from its CXT RT3 GPU, announced at the end of 2021.
There is a potential chicken-and-egg situation around in-phone ray-tracing, with games developers waiting for in-phone hardware before developing the necessary code for their games, and phone makers waiting for user demand before adding the hardware.

It’s hard to look beyond Virgin Orbit’s attempt at the first European satellite launch from Spaceport Cornwall ending in failure.
Cosmic Girl took off successfully from Newquay, followed by the rocket ignition of LauncherOne, but Virgin Orbit reported an anomaly in the second stage that prevented the payload being deployed and reaching the correct orbit.

- Three European space companies are teaming up to test a collision avoidance system on a small satellite this year in low Earth orbit, reports Space News. Apparently, they will use data from Portuguese space traffic management company Neuraspace to guide electric thrusters developed by the Spain company Ienai Space on a cubesat built by the Bulgarian-based company Endurosat, it says.
